The office Election Commission of Thailand (OECT) disclosed the resolution of the meeting of the Election Commission held on 21 September 2026 concerning the inquiry into the selection of the Senators involving 108 eligible persons in Group 9 at the Bangkok provincial level selection. The Election Commission unanimously resolved to dismiss the petitions concerning allegations of acts that violated or failed to comply with the law, or acts that caused the selection not to be conducted in a free, fair, and honest manner, as follows:
1. Section 77 (1), Section 79, and Section 81 of the Organic Act on the Acquisition
of Senators, B.E. 2561 (2018);
2. Section 74 in conjunction with Section 13 (3) and Section 11 (9) of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators, B.E. 2561 (2018).
The details of the allegations are as follows:
Allegation 1: A request was made to investigate the Bangkok provincial level selection of the Senators held on 16 June 2024 at the venue for the provincial-level selection of Senators, concerning the selection of persons within the same group, Group 9. Many individuals were alleged to have concealed their true identities by posing as candidates for selection of the senators and voting for eligible persons in other provincial-level groups rather than voting for themselves. This allegation was based on the fact that the vote-counting results showed many candidates had received zero votes. Such conduct may constitute a violation of Section 77 (1), Section 79, and Section 81 of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators, B.E. 2561 (2018), or may constitute conduct causing the selection not to be conducted in a fair or honest manner.
Allegation 2: Many eligible voters in Group 9 of the Bangkok provincial level selection were alleged not to have been engaged in medium-sized or small-sized enterprises (SMEs),
as required by the qualifications prescribed by the Election Commission. Instead, they were allegedly employees or workers who should have applied under Group 7, which is the group for employees or workers, or Group 20, the any other groups. Such conduct would constitute
a violation of Section 74 in conjunction with Section 13 (3) and Section 11 (9) of the Organic Act on the Acquisition of Senators, B.E. 2561 (2018).
The Election Commission's decision in this case will be published on the website
of the Office of the Election Commission of Thailand for public information.
